This light and lacy crochet blanket uses almost exclusively half double crochet stitches. To be specific you are going to need to learn the lacy v-stitch, which is so easy.

Sidenote: If you like lacy crochet patterns then you should definitely check out my Plumeria shawl. A lacy lightweight crochet shawl, perfect for the warmer months.

Half double crochet blankets usually aren’t considered to be quick, but when you combine the half double crochet in a v-stitch, the project just flies off the crochet hook.

I don’t know about you but I feel like when chain stitches are involved in a crochet project that makes it go faster in some way.

Maybe it’s just because with one tiny stitch, you are gaining a lot of space in the least amount of time.

That’s one of the reasons I chose the moss stitch, another stitch pattern that utilizes chains, for my Dark Matter shawl.

Since I love baby blankets so much I have planned a couple of lacy baby blanket crochet patterns for 2023. Stay tuned!

Is this an easy crochet blanket?

Sure! It’s as easy as it gets. You will only have to use single crochet, half double crochet and chain stitches for the entire project.

Easy crochet stitches for blankets

Sometimes the inspiration hits you hard in the face and sometimes you need to do a little research. This design needed a little help…

While I was browsing the 200 Crochet Stitches book I first fell in love with the spider stitch. After a quick swatch, I realized that the yarn-stitch combination wasn’t going to work.

Although I thought that it would make a killer dishcloth. Maybe some other time…

And as I continued my research for inspiration in the 200 Crochet Stitches book I found a very similar stitch. The half double V crochet stitch. Long story short, I finally had a design I could work with. Yay!

Crochet blanket border

Finally, for the border of this lacy baby blanket, I chose a simple and elegant stitch pattern. It’s the single crochet, worked in the back loops only that gives such a simple and timeless design.

It appears so much different than standard single crochet, doesn’t it?

Edging: With color B

Edging: With color B

Join color B at the side of the blanket and start sc evenly around. For the sides of the blanket, I recommend 1 sc in one row and 2 sc in the next row. Or anything that would be neither too stretched nor too loose. Make 3 sc stitches in each corner of the blanket for each of the 5 rounds.

R1: sc evenly around, sl st to join, ch 1 (don’t forget to sc 3 in every corner)

R2-5: sc in blo in each st around, sl st to join, ch 1 (don’t forget to sc 3 in every corner)

FO and weave in all ends
