Today we are going to make a really easy crochet bow. I believe the bow to be a symbol of femininity. If you take a look at little girl’s outfits they usually have bows or hearts printed on them. Girls also love to wear bows on their hair.

So, this is what today’s project is going to be about. A beautiful crochet bow with a little different structure than the ones you are used to. These are available in two sizes but I think it is very easy to customize them a bit and make them suit your needs.

You can add an elastic band and make them a hair tie or sew them on a headband.
Materials you are going to need:
Aran weight yarn (small amount)
US 7/4.50 mm
scissors
tapestry needle
stitch marker
The gauge is not critical for this project, which means you can try anything you like and you will end up with a different size bow. I would love to see some pics with bulky! You can see the measurements of mine below.
Small crochet bow: 3 inches (7,5 cm) wide and 1.25 inches (3 cm) tall
Large crochet bow: 3.5 inches (9 cm) wide and 1.50 inches (4 cm) tall

Abbreviations
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
sc: single crochet
BLO: back loop only

The pattern
As I said before, there are so many beautiful crochet bow patterns out there but this one has a slightly different structure. The middle part is worked in slip stitches so it won’t be so bulky in the middle when you wind the yarn around it. Clever isn’t it? You will see what I mean in a minute.

Small crochet bow
R1: ch 24, sl st to join in a circle (24)
The sl st of R1 is also the first st of R2, so put a stitch marker there to remember the beginning of each new round.
R2: sl st in next 3 st(s), sc 8, sl st 4, sc 8 (24)
All the stitches in the following rounds will be worked in back loops only.
R3-5: BLO sl st 4, sc 8, sl st 4, sc 8 (24)
In the last round only after you finish the last 8 sc, sl st 2-3 more until you find yourself in the middle of the bow and then cut the yarn and pull it through.

Grab both ends of yarn and start winding them around the middle of your bow. Now is the time to add the elastic band if you choose to. No sewing required!

That’s it! First small bow made!
Large crochet bow
R1: ch 32, sl st to join in a circle (32)
The sl st of R1 is also the first st of R2, so put a stitch marker there to remember the beginning of each new round.
R2: sl st in next 5 st(s), sc 10, sl st 6, sc 10 (32)
All the stitches in the following rounds will be worked in back loops only.
R3-6: BLO sl st 6, sc 10, sl st 6, sc 10 (32)
In the last round only after you finish the last 10 sc, sl st 3-4 more until you find yourself in the middle of the bow and then cut the yarn and pull it through.

What a great pattern. I always struggled with shaping my bows but following your pattern I made my best bow yet. Thank you.

How do you secure the yarn once wound around the middle?

I just tie a few knots and hide the yarn inside the bow (the middle part).
