Decorative Crochet Pillow Cover Pattern
A chunky crochet pillow cover pattern, perfect for cozy fall vibes.
Here we are today with another free crochet pattern in collaboration with Hobium Yarns! This time I have a decorative crochet pillow pattern for you, with their amazing yarn Kartopu Elite Wool Grande.

This one is a quick and easy project that you will probably be able to make in an afternoon or two. Great texture, once again, as for most of my patterns. I added 3 large coconut buttons about 2 ¼ inches (5,5 cm) each, which I believe complemented the yarn and the pattern just fine.
You will need a square pillow for this pattern about 20×20 inches (50×50 cm). I got mine from IKEA, but I believe the dimensions are quite common and you will be able to find one, easily.
The yarn
I loved the yarn I used! Kartopu Elite Wool Grande is a super bulky, 51% acrylic and 49% wool yarn. Each skein has 87 yds (80 m) and I used 5 skeins for the crochet pillow pattern and a 9 mm crochet hook.
What I really liked about this yarn, besides being bulky, is that it is so soft and so easy to work with. One of the reasons you will be able to make this project in no time is that the yarn glides so effortlessly on your hook.
Really, I always like to work with soft yarns but this one took me by surprise! It literally flies off your crochet hook and I am working with a plastic Bates crochet hook. Nothing fancy as you can see, but I really like these hooks, too!

Construction
You will start with the upper part of the ribbing, then move to the main part of the pillow, and lastly to the bottom part of the ribbing, which includes the buttonholes.
Finally, you will follow the instructions to sew the piece together and the buttons, in the assembly section.

Crochet hook: US M/9.00 mm

Gauge: 4 clusters* and 6 rows in pattern is 4″ (10 cm).
*A cluster is a sc and a dc stitch.
Final size: 38.5″ x 20.5″ (98 x 52 cm)

R1: ch 10, sl st in second chain from hook in back bumps only and in all ch(s) across, ch 1, turn (9)
R2: sl st in blo in each st across, ch 1, turn, (9)
R3-68: repeat row 2, do not cut the yarn at the end of the ribbing.
Main part of the pillow
R69: sc 37 evenly across, ch 1, turn (37)
R70: * (sc, dc) in first st, sk 1 st * repeat from * to * across, (sc, dc) in last st, ch 1, turn
R71: * sk dc, (sc, dc) in sc *, repeat from * to * across, ch 1, turn
R72-118: repeat row 71
Ribbing
In the last row (71), place stitch markers at st(s) 9, 20, and 30. You will continue with the ribbing and when you reach each stitch marker a buttonhole will be created.
R119: ch 10, sl st in second chain from hook and in all ch(s) across, sl st in next st of the last row of the main part, ch 1, turn
R120: sk sl st, sl st in blo in next 9 st(s), ch 1, turn
R121: sl st in blo in all st(s) across, sl st in next st of the last row of the main part, ch 1, turn
R122-133: repeat rows 120 and 121

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Assembly
1. Fold the pillow just above the middle. You will have 8 rows from the top.
2. Place and sew buttons. Use pins if necessary for correct placement.
3. Use sc to sew both sides of the pillow. Grab both layers of fabric together.
4. Weave in all your ends and you are done!
