Crochet hanging basket – free pattern

Cute little crochet hanging basket for all your knick-knacks. Easy and quick free crochet pattern.

I don’t have a large yarn stash, I really don’t. I have never been a hoarder of anything, even things I like very much. I consider myself a minimalist and try not to own lots of stuff. That is not always easy, of course, and these days I try to get rid of things that I have since I was a child.

Pin me now, make later… 😉

The past month or so, I have decided that I have owned some yarn for quite a while, and it’s about time to make something with it. It will take dedication and several projects (more patterns for you, yeah!), but I am determined to reduce the size of my yarn stash. And maybe make room for new stuff to come?

So, these small crochet hanging baskets came out of necessity again for two reasons. The first one is mentioned above, the second is that I needed a hanging basket. Well, two.

You may know by now my love for crochet baskets from these projects below. From left to right: Crochet oval baskets, crochet baskets set, Maja large crochet basket.

I had a smaller one that I used for my little one’s socks. It was very convenient as they tend to be tiny and get lost easily. I had it hanged in the closet beside her clothes, so it was easy to grab a pair of socks with her clothes.

Now that we are expecting a second little one (I don’t think I have mentioned this before, have I?), I needed a second hanging basket. I changed the design a bit from the original one – I have never published this pattern – and I think I like it more.

It’s a little bigger but still not too big that will not fit well into the closet. I used leftover yarn for both of them and I even frogged the old one to finish the grey basket.

I think their size and shape is ideal for small things, plus I think they are cute enough to hang in places that people will actually see them. It’s a very quick and easy project and I bet you can make it in less than an hour.

It uses super bulky yarn and a US/N 10.0 m crochet hook, so this small crochet hanging basket can be easily done in an afternoon.

Hi, I am fairly new to crochet and I am confused on what it means when it says * hdc 2, hdc inc * repeat from * to * around, on rows 3 - 5. I am also confused on what it means when it says, sl st, ch 1, at the end of the row. Do you start the next row with that or do you leave one stitch open at the end of the row to do that? Thanks for the help!

I'm new to crochet and am a little confused by row 12. Any chance you can write it out so it may be easier to follow? Do I slip stitch 13 times or in the 13th stitch?

You will make one slip stitch in every stitch for 13 stitches. Is that better or did I make it more confusing?

But how many chains make a magic ring?

Magic rings aren't made of chains. You could try and google how to to make a magic ring or start with 3 chains. I definitely suggest that you learn how to make a magic ring, though. It is a game-changer!
