The Benson crochet baby blanket pattern

I have always loved making blankets! There is something really soothing about making a project that can literally keep you warm, while you are making it! Maybe it is the repetition of the stitches, that most blankets consist of, that keep your hands occupied and your mind is set free to wander.

Baby blankets, on the other hand, are a quick fix! You can still keep warm while you are making them in the cold winter days, but they don’t take as long as adult blankets. If you are a beginner, it would be much better for you if you started a baby blanket instead of a bigger one as your very first project.

So, I present to you the “Benson baby blanket”! An easy and mindless crochet project that you’ll finish in no time!

Crochet baby blanket on a budget?

Yes, please! This one definitely fits the criteria! I’ve chosen a yarn that is well known and wildly available with a great price point. This is going to be one of the cheapest baby blankets you’ll ever be able to make with quality yarn. Even if you don’t want to use the exact same brand I did, you could choose just about any baby yarn brand you love!

Get the same yarn I used for the Benson Baby Blanket here!

I also chose crochet stitches that give a bit of texture. I love texture and actually, babies love texture, too! A simple design that is accompanied by an ombre effect to give depth on your project and let the eyes wander through it!

Of course, since this is a crochet pattern, you can make it with the colors of your choice. Please, don’t be limited by my mood-ish greys! I also included a photo tutorial with an easy way to change colors throughout the project without anyone noticing! How cool is that?

The new mum-to-be has selected which girl colours she prefers. She’s chosen the first of your suggestions mushroom, pale rose and raspberry. Since I will have to order from two sources to obtain these colours it’s important that I get the numbers correct. I see that I order a different number of skeins for colours AB then C Would you suggest using the colours in the order you mentioned with C being the raspberry colour and mushroom and pale rose being A and B. Thanks for your kind assistance.

Hi Lynn! Great color choice for the Benson baby blanket. I have them set up in a lighter to darker tone. This way the darker color will be in the middle of your blanket. If you want to switch up the colors just know that the lighter color (the mushroom in this instance) will be in the center of your blanket and the darker will be on top and bottom. Nothing wrong with that, it's just personal preference. I hope this helps.

I am in the process of buying the pattern and yarn at the same time. It does show me the yarn to buy but it doesn't show how many of each colour it used to. Can you tell me how many balls of each the parchment, grey & graphite,so I can order together.

Is this light weight enough for a Florida baby?

I live in Greece, so I have no idea how light it has to be for someone living in Florida. Sorry...

What size is this blanket and is it easy to enlarge if I need to?

It is about 35"x35". If you are experienced enough, you could make it bigger or smaller. It is a fairly easy pattern. ;-)
