The Benson crochet baby blanket pattern

I have always loved making blankets! There is something really soothing about making a project that can literally keep you warm, while you are making it! Maybe it is the repetition of the stitches, that most blankets consist of, that keep your hands occupied and your mind is set free to wander.

Get the crochet pattern on Etsy, Lovecrafts or Ravelry. Don’t forget to add it to your queue.

Baby blankets, on the other hand, are a quick fix! You can still keep warm while you are making them in the cold winter days, but they don’t take as long as adult blankets. If you are a beginner, it would be much better for you if you started a baby blanket instead of a bigger one as your very first project.

So, I present to you the โ€œBenson baby blanketโ€! An easy and mindless crochet project that you’ll finish in no time!

Crochet baby blanket on a budget?

Yes, please! This one definitely fits the criteria! I’ve chosen a yarn that is well known and wildly available with a great price point. This is going to be one of the cheapest baby blankets you’ll ever be able to make with quality yarn. Even if you don’t want to use the exact same brand I did, you could choose just about any baby yarn brand you love!

Get the same yarn I used for the Benson Baby Blanket here!

I also chose crochet stitches that give a bit of texture. I love texture and actually, babies love texture, too! A simple design that is accompanied by an ombre effect to give depth on your project and let the eyes wander through it!

Of course, since this is a crochet pattern, you can make it with the colors of your choice. Please, don’t be limited by my mood-ish greys! I also included a photo tutorial with an easy way to change colors throughout the project without anyone noticing! How cool is that?

    1. I think a standard size is 35×35, but there are lots of different sizes if you search for “baby blanket sizes”.

  1. I’m relatively new to crochet but am feeling inspired to make something for my first baby (on the way). How easy would this pattern be for total beginners? Also, which size crochet hook would you recommend?

    Thanks so much! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Congrats on your first baby! I hope everything goes smoothly! It is a great pattern for beginners, plus I offer full pattern support and I will make sure that you will have a handmade blanket for your baby!

  2. This blanket looks pretty thick. Do you use more than one strand of crochet yarn? I don’t like using more than one and would hate to order the pattern and then find this out.

    1. The blanket is not very thick because the yarn is lightweight, but you are correct! I do use more than one strands, so it might not be the best fit for you. Sorry…

  3. Iโ€™m a beginner, can you tell me what stitches are use for this pattern? Interested in purchasing but only if I feel confident in doing the stitches.

    Thank you!

    1. I am pretty sure you will know these stitches. They are the most basic in the crochet world. Just single and double crochet and you will be just fine! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. No, I haven’t tried it. I thought the color changes were enough and maybe a border would be too much, but you are welcome to try. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. It is about 35″x35″. If you are experienced enough, you could make it bigger or smaller. It is a fairly easy pattern. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Hello I would love to try your
Benson Baby Blanket and as am not very good using the internet to order this pattern can u help me to get it and very willing to pay for this.
    Many thanks

    1. Below the first photo there are the words Etsy, Ravelry and Lovecrafts in pink letters. If you click on any of those it will direct you to the place that you can buy the pattern for the Benson baby blanket. Good luck!

    1. I live in Greece, so I have no idea how light it has to be for someone living in Florida. Sorry…
